Everglades

The last time I went to the Everglades was in elementary school. It’s one of those field trips every kid in Miami goes on, and then they usually never return. Since I’ve been back to Miami, I’ve been trying to find my niche and I decided to stray away from the obvious big buildings and neon lights for now and focus on something I think Miamians have forgotten about. It was definitely nice to go back. I really forgot how beautiful it is. I only went to wet my feet a little (no pun intended), so I only walked the anhinga trail. I will go back and explore some more, but it was nice to find some critters on my first visit back. (Note: If anyone can name the birds let me know.)

This one is my favorite. I was photographing the one asleep and the other baby gator walked over to it like it was trying to protect it.

When I stumbled upon this bird it sat up straight like it was posing for me.

I counted nine baby gators. I stayed for a while waiting to see if I could spot the mom, but she never showed up.

This was the saddest part for me. There are tons of garabge cans and recycle bins, but there were still water bottles in the water. I counted four along this little trail. It's the Everglades! C'mon!
