Between May 27th and June 11th I went on a trip that has a large hatch mark in the time line of my life. I spent two weeks on tour across the country with local Gainesville band Morningbell. I came back with a hematoma in my knee, three hard drives filled with footage, and greater appreciation for this country.
But the most important thing I came back with is an appreciation of traveling independent musicians. Without a record label, Morningbell has been able to reach a level of success that is mind-blowing. But that success doesn’t come without sacrifice, blood, sweat, tears and dirty bathrooms.
Most music documentaries deal with the conflicts within a band and the competing ego’s. This documentary will finally show all the outside obstacles a band has to deal with, and what they have to go through on a tour.
The larger question is, in an age where the record company is on its death bed what does success mean? And is there still a need for a label?
I can’t begin to explain how amazing this experience was. So, enjoy the trailer to the documentary. It’s a little taste of what’s to come. And hopefully whenever I can wrap my head around 820 gb of footage you can see the final product.
Enjoy!
Cheers!
