When I was 13 I saw a movie, and after watching it I knew what I wanted to do with my life.
Almost Famous struck a chord with me because I could relate so much, and because it’s based on a true story. Cameron Crowe, the director, was that kid who got to follow a band on tour, which led him to be a contributing editor at Rolling Stone, eventually a great director.
Although my life isn’t exactly like the film, there is just a lot that looks like my life. The over protective mother, the rebellious older sister who introduces you to music, the grades to be a doctor or lawyer but the desire to be a journalist- I lived all of that. And now one of my biggest dreams is coming true.
On Thursday I will be going on tour with Morningbell.
I finally get to go on tour with a band across the U.S., and I couldn’t think of a better band to go with. Thankfully, Morningbell doesn’t have the ego or attitude that Stillwater did in Almost Famous.
The great thing about Morningbell is that they are an example of the future band. Not just because of their sound, but because of how independent they are. When record companies finally collapse, bands will start to look like Morningbell. I can’t think of another band where besides being professional musicians they are also lawyers, librarians, veterinarians and journalists. Without a record company, this band has been able to tour the country, get their music played on television, be featured in magazines and receive countless favorable reviews. They’ve done all of this from Gainesville, and without having to put their education or careers on hold. It’s all about dedication, innovation and playing great music.

So as much as this experience will be a growing and exciting time for me, I hope to capture the personality of this band with my camera.
Cheers!
